Discovering UK: Windsor Castle

The 11th of May was a cloudy and rain-menacing Sunday, and it just fit between two sunny weekends. Of course, my parents came over just in time to enjoy the worst of the typical English weather. Forget what I wrote about cliches a few months ago, this is May and usually Milan is blossoming and wonderful this time of the year. Therefore if the British weather in May is crappy, I will complain.
Anyway. Could rain stop us from enjoying what Britain has to offer? Of course not. And there we were, a party of four equipped with umbrellas and reflex, heading to Windsor Castle.

Book review: The Casual Vacancy

"He left the sentence unfinished, but it did not matter: Maureen knew exactly what he meant. Both, as they watched Councillor Jawanda disappear around a corner, were contemplating the casual vacancy: and they saw it, not as an empty space but as a magician's pocket, full of possibilities."*

Fancy veggie?

For a couple of years now, we've been trying to eat less meat and to find some vegetarian alternative. We've even attended a vegan cooking class just to learn a bit more about ingredients and how to use them properly. There are many reasons behind this choice, the most important being health. So, I'd like to share with you this recipe of vegan quinoa burgers I really loved!

You’ll find what you want in the Portobello road

The first time I went to London I was 20 (don't do the math, it was 2000!) and the city welcomed me with a guy puking on some lady's coat just in front of my eyes (a bit of Linda Blair in The Exorcist, you know?), right before getting off the tube. It was 11 pm, our plane had had a damn 3-hour delay and I was exhausted. But how wonderful, the following morning, catch a red double decker and explore, for the first time, the magic mess of Portobello Road.

Milan, a city you may not expect

Imagine a woman. A secretive woman. Someone so busy she has no time for make up, someone who doesn't dress up but simply wears grey suits. She's the kind of woman who too often forgets to camouflage her undereye circles, and she works too hard, too much and doesn't sleep. And in spite of that, just look at her, she's beautiful. Her eyes glimmer, her lips smile. It's a matter of details revealing a subtle charm. Can you picture that?
Ok. Then imagine this woman as she were a city, and you will see white spires popping out, a golden figure standing on the highest pinnacle, and below that a web-like group of streets, set in a huge plain crowned by mountains. That is. Milan.
*
Immaginate una donna. Riservata, sobria. Indaffarata. Particolari. Microscopici a volte. Ma rivelatori di un fascino magnetico. Fatto?
Bene. E avrete Milano.
